Review by hotel critic
As a marine biologist and scuba instructor, I'm accustomed to valuing the vibrant ecosystems of the ocean, but my recent stay at Stayokay in Amsterdam highlighted a different kind of vibrant atmosphere-its culinary scene. Nestled close to Leidse Square, the hostel is a great starting point for foodie adventures, with plenty of nearby options like Bagels & Beans and the Uptown Meat Club. Though I'm not a frequent hostel-goer, I found the Brasserie Bite & Drink to be a cozy spot for a bite after a day of exploring. The freshly baked bread at breakfast was a delightful way to fuel up before diving into the day's adventures-both underwater and on land! The ambiance was relaxed, perfect for winding down with a drink, yet I noticed that most guests tended to stick with their own groups, which made the social scene a bit subdued. Despite that, I left with a satisfied palate and a greater appreciation for Dutch fare. For those looking for a budget-friendly place with good eats and a friendly staff, Stayokay ticks the boxes-just don't forget to mingle a bit!
